Darcy–Weisbach head loss

Physics-based friction loss using Reynolds number and a friction factor (laminar exact; turbulent via Swamee–Jain approximation). Default ν = 1.0×10−6 m²/s (water ~20 °C) and ε are user/engineering assumptions, not ALFA certificates.

When to use

  • Use Darcy–Weisbach when the consultant requires Re-based analysis, non-water fluids, or temperature-sensitive viscosity.
  • Use Hazen–Williams for common water-distribution friction education with an agreed C-factor.
  • Neither equation alone replaces surge, pump curve, or minor-loss design.
