Thin-wall hoop relation used in thermoplastic pressure education. Confirm allowable design stress S from the governing standard and ALFA product data for your compound/SDR.

SDR = OD / t   |   P = 2·S / (SDR − 1)

Where OD, t in consistent length units; P and S in MPa in this tool (1 MPa = 10 bar).

Assumptions & limits

  • Thin-wall approximation; thick-wall and long-term hydrostatic design use standard-specific rules (e.g. ISO 9080 / product standard).
  • S is not an ALFA catalogue number — obtain allowable stress from the design standard and manufacturer data.
  • Does not include surge, joints, ovality, or temperature derating.
